YouTube

Youtube should be considered a safe and reliable source of educational video content. In the past few years, YouTube has intentionally and successfully implemented child safety and privacy measures to ensure improved video sharing and viewing experiences. Most educational video content is now stored on Youtube, making it the defacto standard for video-based teaching and learning. There are many very high-quality educational Youtube channels, including National Geographic, TED-ed, Mystery Doug, StorylineOnline, SciShow Kids, Crash Course, and Reading Rockets, just to name a few. You can find more educational Youtube content at Learn at Home with Youtube

  • YouTube integrates seamlessly with Google Apps for Education and with several district-supported digital tools, including EdPuzzle and Pear Deck.

  • To further improve student Youtube experiences the district recently enabled the AdBlock for Youtube Chrome extension on all student accounts, so students will not see any advertising when watching videos at school or at home when using their Chromebooks, or another device with a Chrome browser.

  • Teachers can embed YouTube videos in Google Classroom and Google Slides that will play directly in those platforms, eliminating any comments or suggested content.

  • Please do not use 3rd-party tools such as Safeshare.tv or Viewpure, as these sites lack transparency about the organizations behind them, require payment after a limited number of uses, and worst of all, are in blatant violation of student data privacy laws.
